In September, Philadelphia hosted the quarterly meeting of the National Advisory Council on Innovation & Entrepreneurship (NACIE) at The Navy Yard.
During the visit, acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank, Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Karen Mills and Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter celebrated new federal funding for innovative small businesses and research.
Ben Franklin and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) were each awarded $1M through the SBA’s new competitive Intermediary Lending Pilot (ILP) Program. Temple University’s Water Environmental Technology Center (WET), in partnership with Ben Franklin, and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), were each awarded $1 million through the National Science Foundation’s new Accelerating Innovation Research (AIR) initiative.
