Cell X Technologies

What They Do

Cell X Technologies is transforming the manufacturing of cell-based therapies through intelligent biomanufacturing. Its Celligent platform combines robotics, imaging, machine learning, and data capture to automate cell processing, helping therapeutic developers improve consistency, reduce variability, lower costs, and accelerate the production of regenerative medicines.

The Challenge

Although Cell X had successfully demonstrated its core technology with an early prototype, it needed significant refinement before it could become a production-ready platform. The system lacked fully integrated automation, imaging-based decision-making, scalable hardware, mature software, and the standardized processes required to meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

How Ben Franklin Helped

Innovation Works, a Ben Franklin Technology Partner, helped Cell X transition from prototype to production through the Robotics Factory Accelerate and Scale programs. The company received manufacturing expertise, startup guidance, access to specialized equipment, mentorship, and strategic industry connections. An Innovation Works Scalable Grant also supported key manufacturing partnerships that redesigned components for production and accelerated commercialization.

Key Outcomes

Cell X successfully transformed its prototype into a scalable, production-ready platform capable of automating complex cell therapy manufacturing. The company improved manufacturability, standardized its processes, strengthened strategic partnerships, and demonstrated that the Celligent platform can integrate into existing manufacturing workflows while improving consistency, reproducibility, and scalability. Cell X is now advancing AI-driven process control to further automate regenerative medicine manufacturing.
