Videon Central Still Leading the HDTV Technology Wave
More than five years ago, Videon Central was awarded Ben Franklin funding to develop high definition television (HDTV) products for personal computers. Their first product did just that and enabled PC monitors to receive and display HDTV signals. Literally every major retail provider of products for personal computers adopted the design. Soon companies like Pinnacle and Panasonic had products on store shelves based on Videon’s development.
Located in State College, the company’s phenomenal product adoption and market acceptance enabled the start-up to nearly double its sales in the first year.
Videon’s team headed by the President/CEO Todd Erdley believed right from the beginning that their expertise would create a foothold in the market and make them a leading supplier for video and DVD solutions. The team was right.
Today, Videon’s diverse customer base includes segments in digital cinemas, in-flight entertainment, home automation, and consumer electronics to name just a few.
A Contribution to the Community
Videon’s contribution to the field of HDTV has also resulted in a contribution to the community as well. In 1999, at the start of the Ben Franklin funding year, Videon employed 14 people.
Because of the company’s explosive growth, it now employs nearly 40. Along with the growth in personnel, the company has twice expanded its operation and now resides in a 17,000 square foot facility.
Videon assembled an outstanding team to ensure the success of its development work and has an engineering staff that is often acknowledged as the most advanced group in the field of digital video development.
As Erdely frequently comments, “Our ability to prosper, grow, and consistently double our sales every year is directly attributable to the diligent work of our entire team, our technology alliances in the Silicon Valley, and the support of the Ben Franklin Program.”
