SoftGentics Enters Exclusive Agreement with Ambry Genetics
BFTP/CNP client company SoftGenetics, a maker of software that detects genetic sequencing variances, has entered a new exclusive agreement with Ambry Genetics. SoftGenetics will now provide bioinformatics services to Ambry’s next-generation sequencing customers.
SoftGenetics has an extensive product line which includes GeneMarker®, a highly accurate tool for genotyping applications and fragment analysis that’s used at prestigious organizations such as the National Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.
SoftGenetics is based in State College and has received a total of $390,000 in funding from Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania. The first funding round was in 2002, and the last was in 2008.
Ambry Genetics, a genomics and clinical services firm, will be offering SoftGenetics’ NextGENe software for projects it performs in its labs. The NextGENe analysis software works in a freestanding Windows-based program and is compatible with all major next-generation sequencing systems, Ambry says.
“This agreement combines Ambry Genetics’ sequencing with the unique analysis capabilities of NextGENe without the heavy investment typically required in next-generation sequencing instrumentation and heavy bioinformatics,” says John Fosnacht, SoftGenetics VP of sales and marketing.
